SCENESET
AFTERNOON;Neo X
Early Evening; Gold-X, the senior team of X-men, joined by Colossus, had returned from Castle Rock almost two days prior with a potential new addition to the institute. Since their arrival, the young man they had found in Castle Rock had spent all of his waking hours undergoing a series of tests and examinations. Professor Xavier and Doctors Jean Grey and Hank McCoy had been attempting to determine the nature of their new arrival with mixed results. As such, his file was labelled simply 'X' with the intention of revising it later once they better understood the young man.
To date, he'd demonstrated a predilection for ESP. Also known extra-sensory perception, his abilities seem to fluctuate around a temporal awareness which was rather acute within a range of roughly one hour into the future or the past, his range at this time was unclear, possibly being limited by line-of-sight; He did not register as a mutant, but then he did not appear to register as anything more than a baseline human, yet he had naturally resisted many psychic probes unless he was actively concentrating on the sender, this might at least hold part of the answer as to how X escaped categorization by the Cerebro.
An early invention by Xavier, the first version of the Cerebro was small computer which operated on punchcards much like any computer from the mid seventies. Originally, its purpose was to identify and distinguish lifeforms based on the nature of their unique brainwave patterns. In the beginning anyone could operate the Cerebro. Since then, and with the help of Doctor McCoy and a gifted Native American inventor and good friend of the Professor's, Daniel Lone Eagle, the Cerebro had evolved. Now, the device housed deep below the mansion was far more powerful, possessing global range amplifying a psychics powers to a staggering degree.
Doctor McCoy had theorized that the young man might possess a natural mutation which allowed him to avoid detection. If this were the case, he had what might very well be the most useful evolutionary adaption since opposable thumbs. Given his abilities, and following several discussions with Professor Xavier and the school's head administrator Scott Summers, he had been assigned to the the school's new designated train curriculum, designated X-Neo, but generally referred to as the New Mutants.
Tonight was his first night that he had to himself, he planned to make the most of looking around the school...
X:: His eyes, a mix of greens high-lighted by accents of gold seemed to danced as he walked down the long colonial-period hallway. To one side the was was laced with windows which stretch upward and nearly touched the high ceiling, the other side of the hallway was punctuated by doors and oil paints of Professor Xavier's lineage, and those who had owned the large estate before Charle's time. In many ways, stepping into the mansion was to step somewhat into the past, into a more serene and protected world, or at least so it seemed to X.
He passed from one room to the next, anticipating what was were and as usual he found that he was correct more often than naught. He passed from the west hallway into the central library to the back sun room which overlooked much of the estates lands which was thick with trees striped bare due to winter, and possible even a lake. It seemed like a lake, but it might just have been a trick of the fading sunlight and fallen snow. Still, whatever it was, the way the trees swayed in the gentle wind, it seemed magical to the young man.
From the sunroom he walked down the east hallway into the kitchen and dinning room which had several tables and appeared to function as a cafeteria capable of seating 30 or so people. X grimaced slightly, this confirmed his impression of how many people were possibly in attendance at the school. From the dinning hall, he took the back stairway up to the third floor bypassing the second floor which was largely dedicated to class. The third floor was where everyone slept. Depending on who you were determined how many people were assigned to a room. For the younger students like Kitty Pryde, Sam Guthrie, and himself, they shared rooms. The more senior students and members of faculty and staff had the good fortune of private quarters; The cleaning and maintenance staff stayed in private domicile located a half mile from the Institute. Once a great house owned by another family, it had been purchased to expand the estates land and serve as quarters for largely non-mutant but very loyal staff. In recent years, it had been updated with host of amenities as a thank you for years of loyal service.
On the third floor, X wandered back from the student housing into the more senior common area, there he thought he saw the person he was looking for. He seemed like the person given his expansive shoulders and dark hair, but he was looking at him from where he was sitting on a large leather colonial period couch. Entering the room, he called out in a quiet but affectionate voice "... Piotr, is that you? "
Colossus:: Piotr was grateful they had manged to rescue his new friend and retrieve his things as well. Maybe he'd been a tad pushy on making sure he didn't leave anything behind. But he'd still had nightmares of leaving Russia and he'd had to leave some things behind. Things that were likely destroyed or sold off by now. He had gone for a run this morning and taken a shower and changed. Now he was dressed in a blue tanktop, blue shorts, and a pair of black sandals. After so many freezing winters growing up in Russia it was nice to have warmer weather here. He appreciated it more when it happened and inside houses like this it could be as warm or cold as you wanted regardless of how the weather was outside.
He turned on the tv deciding to see if anything was on flipping through channels. He heard a familiar voice looking up and seeing the latest arrival and his crush. He had kissed him during the rescue attempt and kept thinking about it. Hoping maybe for more one day. But like all of his crushes he figured they'd fade with time. Or they'd find someone else. He'd had crushes on many of the students and teachers here too and thankfully none of them knew about it. If anyone read his mind or figured it out they hadn't said anything. But he'd gotten so used to hiding his emotions that it was harder to open up sometimes. He was much better than when he first got here but he still had some learning to do. At least that's what Xavier had said.
"Hello! You're welcome to join me." replied Piotr, patting the couch.
He paused realizing he hadn't even bothered to learn his name. If the guy had mentioned it was probably briefly. And he was focused more on getting him to safety.
"My apologies. What's your name? I can't remember if you told me during the rescue but I was so focused on getting you to safety. I probably forgot it." said Piotr.
X:: “To quote the blue guy, “wunderbah!”” replied the slightly younger man as he walked up behind the large leather couch and rolled over the top of the couch and came to rest with his back nestled in the corner of the couch with his knees drawn up close to him. He smiled. His powers, still in their infancy, allowed him an awareness of the past, present, and future of an area, and while he was not telepathic, he had an awareness of how others felt, and to some degree their thoughts. If he was within relative range and someone wanted him, he would know that they wished for him to draw closer. If the Professor or Jean Grey were thristy and wanted a drink, he would know they were thirsty, but not necessarily their preference. But a little deductive reason would have him bring them Earl Grey tea - In the case of the Professor, he would have hit the choice on the head, however, with Jean, Earl Grey would be close, but no cigar as she preferred Mint Majesty. And in this moment, he could tell that Piotr was thinking of him, complicated thoughts, accompanied with a mix of emotion.
A mix of hope, and possible melancholy.
He tried to hone in more on Piotr’s sense of hope, it felt more inviting to him. He smiled. Yes, the young man was sure that Piotr had hopeful feelings where he was concerned. These thoughts and feelings appeared to run paralle to bits of the future had had recently glimpsed.
He smiled.
Hello Piotr, it is good to see you again. I felt like I was going to tied up with your Professor and members of staff forever. I don’t think that Doctor McCoy has a single needle he didn’t stick me with. He replied with a quiet laugh. Your Professor has extended me an invitiation to stay and study here at the school… I will study along side the newer mutants — I will be the oldest new mutant! Ha hah!
Again he smiled, and repositioned himself slightly, still the same position with his knees curled up before him, but more comfortable non the less.
My name, yeah, turns out thats a bit of a weird one — Seems I can’t remember it. I’ve been wandering for a while now and somewhere along the way I seem to have forgotten much of my past… I must have hit my head somewhere, at least thats my assumption, but your Professor thinks it might be something more… odd huh? Mr. Summers is attempting to run a background check to see if he can asscertain my identity… They’ve been referring to me as X for the moment.
He shrugged.
Weird huh?
Colossus:: Piotr grinned.
"I suppose they were being thorough. To make sure we are all safe including you." replied Piotr.
He raised an eyebrow at the mention of needles.
"You don't like needles either?" asked Piotr.
Piotr sighed in relief that was staying.
"That's great. That means we can hang out together more." said Piotr.
He was surprised to hear he didn't know his name.
"You don't know your name? Perhaps someone messed with your memories. Jean and Professor Xavier will know for sure." replii4
"X huh? Well Mr. X I was watching tv if you care to join me. Do you have any favorites or don't care what I turn the tv to?" replied Piotr.
X::Trust me they were very thorough… like, bend over and cough thorough. he replied, followed by a quiet snicker. Going to make sure that I note that in my Yelp! review - doctor is very thorough! Hahah he added with a smile. And no. No needles for me please. I’m pretty sure most people don’t like needles… and those that do aren’t really my type.Nope, definitely not my type.And yeah… That’d be cool, I’d enjoy that, hanging out with an upper classmen. He paused. He smiled inwardly, then added You know if this school were bigger, and it had a football team… what Americans would call ‘rugby’, I bet you’d be the captain… And if you were, i’d so sign up to be on the cheer squad.
Sitting up slightly,X raised his arms upwards slightly and began the pantomime of a cheer as he called out Give me a Pee, give me Eye, give me a great big Oh to the Tee Arr! He would have continued but he gave into laughter, he was being a bit absurd, but the Institute was a bit of an absurd place if you thought about it. And it was when he laughed that one could hear a bit of an Irish brought in his voice.
I’ve not really been keeping up with anything myself. I’ve kind of been roughing it as I’ve been wandering the landscape these last few months I think which.. is pretty much all I can remember and even some of that is a little hazy if i’m being honest… but oddly enough, I do know ever single book thats in that bookcase over there… which now that I think about it is pretty weird.. so changing topic yeah, whats on the tube. What does Mr. R like to watch?
And having said that, X came to realized that he kind of knew what Piotr liked to watch, which now that he was aware of if and what was and wasn’t exactly normal based on several long conversations with the Professor and the Doctors, now felt kind of weird too.
X, he realized, was self-weirding.
He laughed at that and then turned toward Piotr and took a slight moment to admire him and smiled, then blushed profusely as he became aware that he had a very sudden, very keen awareness of what Piotr looked like - an awareness that went far beyond his clothing. It wasn't X-Ray vision or anything like that, it was more like having been with someone for a while and having seen them relaxing in the nude over a period of time. He just sort of had a very keen idea of what Piotr looked like.
He liked that what he knew.
He wasn't comfortable that he knew it, but still he very much liked what he was now aware of.
X felt a little weirder now than he had moments before.
Yep.
Definitely self-wierding.
Colossus:: Piotr felt himself blushing at the mental image of that. He always found himself attracted to the other man and they'd just met. He shouldn't think of him like that yet. Although he wouldn't mind dating him maybe to see if this worked out. But his own insecurities and doubts weighed on him. He'd never really dated a guy before. And what if it didn't work out? But I guess that was the risk of any relationship.
"I was never that good at sports and I don't know if anyone would cheer me on." replied Piotr.
He looked at him sadly and nodded.
"Then I'm glad we found you. You deserve a nice safe place with a bedroom, and food and to learn." said Piotr.
He shrugged.
"Well, mysteries are fun to watch and even some fighting movies. The Rocky movies are quite good." mentioned Piotr.
He paused seeing the other blush which made him more attractive. He wasn't sure what he was thinking about but it did make up his mind.
"Wouldyougooutwithme?" asked Piotr.
He paused realizing he'd rambled that out and blushed.
"Would you go out with me? I know we just met but I want to know more about you. To date you, and kiss you and hold you." replied Piotr.
X:: "Really? I wouldn't have expected that. When you say you weren't good at sports, is it that you mean you didn't play sports much as a kid growing up on the Ust-Ordynsky Collective? The school has an impromptu baseball team, Iceman told me that you're one of the best sluggers and deliver a home run pretty much every time you come up to bat... so.. modest much?"
He paused, he smiled a half-smile.
Repositioning himself once again on the couch in a way that he appeared more open, more accessible to Piotr. "Yeah. I think you modest war too much. I'm told that people cheer for you when you come up to bat. You have the respect of the school and your fellow X-Men. "
Pausing, he smiled again. He had a growing suspicion that this was something he did, particularly when he was catching glimpses of other people's notions which at the moment he was.
He moved one hand under himself so that it was out of view and crossed his fingers.
"And yeah, mysteries can be fun. I might be a mystery, if I am, maybe you can solve me? That could be fun - ha ha "
And then Piotr asked him to join him for a possible night out somewhere. He smiled again. Yeah it was definitely something he did, smiling to himself.
"Of course. Yes. I think that could be quite nice. Maybe we could go into Manhattan, take a long long walk through Central Park? That could be really nice don't you think? We could get hot dogs at one of those vending carts like you see in the movies. That could be really cool, what do you think? And with you by my side, I'd be safe as houses."
Pausing, he took another moment to see if he could catch a a glimpse of what might be. He smiled as he looked at Piotr, or rather as he looked past Piotr to the night yet to come. As far as Piotr was concerned, X liekly looked like he was smiling at the big Russian. And in a way he was, jit was just that he was smiling at a Piotr that was yet to be.
"Yeah, I think it'd be nice, what do you think?"
Again he paused and smiled. Then, scratching the side of his face wondering if he should tell Piotr that he'd made reservations at a bistro for a few days from now. He decided against that, it was best to introduce the spooky in little bits rather than all at once.
Rather then say anything else, he smiled, turned his head slightly to one side and looked up at Piotr coyly.
Colossus:: Piotr nodded.
"That's fascinating how you know more about me than most people here who've known me for years. I guess it makes getting to know people a little easier." replied Piotr.
He raised an eyebrow.
"I've never been on a team. I'm not sure if he was joking or if he wanted me on a team. I'd be too nervous of messing up or accidentally breaking something. Unless people are confusing me with someone else." said Piotr.
Or was someone going to try to ask him to join a team. He probably wouldn't have the confidence to join. So maybe it was him from a possible future then. It made his head hurt just thinking about it.
"Perhaps. That could be fun." mentioned Piotr.
He nodded again.
"Yes. A walk through Central Park sounds nice. And those hot dogs do sound good." replied Piotr.
He had a feeling no one would suspect X to be here in New York. At least not so soon.
"We should let the others know just in case. I'm sure Professor Xavier and Jean Grey can tell with Cerebero if Stryker or any other threats come by. Or maybe you could with your pwoers. I wouldn't want to take you out and put you in danger." said Piotr.
X:: The smaller dark-haired young man replied with slight shrugof his right should in response to the Russian’s observation.
“
Is it? I don't think that it is Piotr, or at least that is the impression your fellow team-mates conveyed to me. You seem to have the respected of all of them, and dare I say it, I think you are quite understable beloved by all who know you oh humble man.
“
He paused, ending his sentence in gentle smile; Piotr was right though, X did know quite a bit about Piotr, particularily when he was close to him. And what he knew of him he liked very much. He was a good person destined for greatness, and this wasn't just something X believed. He knew this to be true. It was an indisputable fact. As such as the sun would rise in the east, so to would Piotr Rasputin, Colossus of the X-Men would met every challenge life dealt him head on, and with strength of character and the help of his friends, best that which life would through at him. How it was that he was single was likely due to the scarcity of prospects. He may have flirted with Bobby Drake, but they were better friends and teammates then lovers; bobby's humor, funny in small doses could be a touch grating in long boughts X suspected. Likewise emotional intimacy was important to Piotr who possessed an poet's sould and an the spirit of an artist. By his vary nature, Bobby Drake was a distant sort who kept his feelings and fears shield.
X believed that Piotr needed someone he felt needed protecting, and given his own personal abilities, and the value they might represent to the wrong party, one couldn't ask for a better protector than Piotr Rasputin. Perhaps that was what had first caused him to stand out amongst the crowd like a distant beacon to X? Of that, he was unsure, he'd moved into a new temporal stream and in doing so, much of what he had gleamed in the prior flow was, like his own personal history lost to him; He was an enigma even to himself.
He rolled his eyes inwardly at that cosmic jest.
“
I do have a bit of a knack though at getting to know people though I think... I might be approachable or something?
“
Again there was the slight shrug of his shoulders in tandem with an amused but perplexed expression.
“
I don't know, but from what I was told, the people here at the institute occassionally gather for softball games once in a while, no powers. And folks pointed to you as the backbone of the batting order stating no one hit the ball harder or farther than you my friend. The also said you had quite the arm for pitching too.
“
He laughed at that one, the levels the words worked on amused him. X would happy play the catcher to Piotr's pitching. Little fantasies of the pair together tugged at the corners of of his thoughts that risked him suffering from a slight blush. He resisted those thoughts for the moment for fear of turning beat red in front of the Russian.
“
And a woman, Storm I believe her name was, I overheard her talking with a man I believe to be Canadian - he has claws sometimes for popping beer cans, they spoke of you as being a member of the Blue Team along side them... You can learn a lot by listening to others.
“
Sensing the past, present, and future to some degree also helped in that regard.
“
Yeah I know right? I love a big juicy hotdog. I don't believe we've any need to worry about Styker, perhaps if he'd caught wind of me I might be of interest to him, but you got me out of there before anything happened thankfully.
“
That was a very truthful statement, Styker wouldn't likely become a problem until the distant pale house became tarnished with the red rust, whatever that was. Likely it was either something to do with the supernatural or political thought X. Whatever it was, he would continue to puzzle on it suspecting it to have a greater weight than other portents of the future.
“
I can let them know, yeah. I saw an intercom. I also usually carry a pad of post-it notes on me for some dumb reason...
“
He smiled; And his carrying post-it notes with him, not so dumb as time would later tell.

Colossus:: Piotr raised an eyebrow. He wouldn't even know how to play the games. There were so many different kinds of games and different rules. It confused him at times even when washing professional ones on tv.
"Hmm. How odd. I've never played sports. We didn't have many sports back in Russia. At least I never got to play any. I was too busy going to school and working on my family farm. And since moving here I just cheer the others on." replied Piotr.
Piotr chuckled at the other's reply.
"I guess you do." said Piotr.
He blinked in surprise.
"Huh. I guess everyone's playing a joke on us then. Although I don't find it funny." mentioned Piotr.
He decided to drop the subject of sports for now and move on.
"Hot dogs are pretty good. And I'm glad. I wouldn't want him to hurt you." replied Piotr.
He grinned.
"Great. Then we should at least let the Professor know. But I suppose we can also just send him or Jean a telepathic message and they can inform the others." said Piotr.
